G-Clef Music Academy will be celebrating the accomplishments of its music students at its 2024 St. Thomas Recital on Sunday, April 21 at the Memorial Moravian Church. Students, ages four and up, who have been taking weekly private music lessons in piano, guitar, violin, steel pan, drums, voice (singing) and Music Exploration will perform their recital music which will range from classical to pop. Some students will debut their original compositions. There will be two recital presentations on Sunday. The first will take place at 3:00pm to 4:30pm and the second will follow at 5:00pm to 6:30pm. These recital programs will also feature the Partners for Strings Virgin Islands Youth Orchestra who will be performing a dynamic rendition of Canticum. Admission is free to the recital performances. Special parking arrangements have been made for attendees. Please see Recital Parking Information below. Information regarding the Recital Dress Code is also below for parents and guardians of student performers.
G-Clef Music Academy teaches music all-year-round to ages 3 to 93 on the islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix. Students are taught how to play instruments, read music and learn the fundamentals of music theory. Music Exploration (scheduled as Music Fun Time) focuses on ages 3 to 5. These earlier learners are introduced how to play various instruments, such as the drums, steel pan, piano, violin, guitar, ukulele, chimes, and bells; plus they sing on a microphone.
James H. Gumbs, Jr., Academy Director, said, "It's been about 4 years since G-Clef Music Academy has had a recital program featuring all of its students due to COVID-19. We are very proud of the unique talent that we will be presenting. It is a direct result of our amazing teachers. We will also provide additional information regarding our partnership with Partners for Strings to present Youth Orchestra Afternoons in the Summer this June for ages 7 to 17.
